The Brief: Scottish Industries Training and Management Services asked us to extend their existing, unprepossesing, flat-roofed brick administration building on a highly industrialised site in Paisley. The brief was to provide new lecture rooms with service and administration accomodation.

The Design: By pulling the extension away from the existing building and linking it with an ‘exhibition’ corridor a more approachable public face to the centre was created. The circulation zone encloses a new landscaped courtyard where staff can escape to during breaks. Clad in cedar the new extension takes the form of a separate building with an overhanging aluminium roof & clerestorey window. The result is a surprisingly dignified little building with a series of well lit spaces.
