Bookend Cottage in Tobermory, a Roxburgh McEwan Architects Development, picked up the Gold Medal for Best Low Cost Project Category along with the prestigious Chairman’s Award for Architecture selceted from all of the winners at the Roses Design Awards 2009
The Brief: To extend the existing terrace of cottages on Albert Street with a new build design on a site that was previously part of the garden of a post-war semi-detatched house set diagonally on the corner.
The Design: A gable window from the principal living spaces of the house takes advantage of the wonderful views to the South and West to Tobermory Bay and the landscape beyond
Both the form and materials of the house are traditional in nature, with simple, vertically proportioned, punched openings in the rendered wall providing framed views to the South and West.
