Passive Houses, Taynuilt

The Brief:  To design a five house development to Passiv Haus standards on a partly wooded site in Taynuilt, West Scotland.

The Design: Five detached houses, based on two house types, were constructed to meet Passiv Haus standards and exceed current energy performance requirements. Renewable materials were used where possible to assist with the low carbon footprint and sustainable installations included solar panels, a heat recovery system and solid fuel heating. The simple vernacular of these timber clad houses sits well within the natural landscape.

The Square House in this development received a commendation in Argyll and Bute Council’s Sustainable Design Awards 2012.
